Face Lifts and Men

Most male patients are between 30 and 70 years of age. Men are good candidates for a facelift because their skin typically is thicker and less wrinkly. Among males, the best candidates are males who want to get rid of a tired look.

The frequent target areas for men are droopiness in the neck and a heaviness in the jowl area located just underneath the chin and jaw line. The most important concern for many men when considering a facelift is a result that looks natural. The incision sites on men must be carefully considered. Many men do not have the option of hairstyles that can easily cover these access sites. Therefore, many men prefer smaller incisions that leave no visible scars. Incisions (the sites were the skin is pulled) on men typically start in the natural crease of the sideburn, inside the ear, around the earlobe, or back into the hairline. If an incision is made under the chin, the excess fat in that area can also be removed and the muscle bands reworked to improve the appearance.

Many men have natural creases where the earlobe and cheek meet. Often, incisions can be placed there. Some men have incisions that extend into the hairline. If a patient had hair growing where the skin is pulled, it may result in the hair now growing back behind the ear. This can result in having to shave where one never had to before.

If you are thinking of facelift surgery and you are a male, you may want to consider some important things. If you color your hair you must do so before the surgery. You cannot color your hair till 4 to 6 weeks after the facelift. Also, if you have thinning hair you may want to consider endoscopic facelift because there are smaller and less visible scars. Keep in mind that men have more blood vessels in their face and it takes longer for the blood to clot before and after surgery. Furthermore, men with deep facial creasing should consider a more traditional facelift for the best results. After the facelift, it is important to rest. You must remain at home for at least a week. Many men have a desire to go workout at the gym. You should wait till your doctor gives you permission. Exercising at the gym increases your blood pressure. The same applies to having sex. With an increase in your blood pressure, you risk splitting or stretching the stitches. This can cause you not only pain but a prolonged recovery. You also risk damaging the final result of your facelift.
